Indicator Lights

Your Rain Cloud has four indicator LEDs (red, green, white, blue) that display different colours and patterns to show what the device is doing. Below is a guide to every state you may see.

Booting

White · Slow flash

The device is starting up. This state is shown during initial hardware setup and initialisation. The white LED flashes once per second (500 ms on, 500 ms off).

Bluetooth Provisioning

Blue · Breathe

Waiting for a Bluetooth connection to configure WiFi. The blue LED smoothly fades in and out over a 3-second cycle. Open the Rain Cloud app and tap "Connect" to set up your device.

Override Active

Blue · Dim

The display is being manually overridden — the animation is not showing live weather data. This indicator appears whenever the force mode is set to anything other than "none" on the device's local web interface (System tab). Set force mode back to "None" to return to live weather.

Connecting to WiFi

Cyan (G+B) · Fast flash

Attempting to connect to the configured WiFi network. The green and blue LEDs flash together rapidly (125 ms on, 125 ms off), producing a cyan blink at about 4 Hz.

Online

Green · Fade-off

Connected to WiFi and operating normally. The green LED lights up at full brightness for 2 seconds, then smoothly fades to off over 3 seconds. This is the normal running state.

Weather Issue

Yellow (R+G) · Slow flash

The device cannot fetch weather data. This usually means no location has been set yet (first boot) or the weather API is unreachable. Set your location on the device's Settings tab to resolve this. The indicator will return to normal once weather data is received.

Offline

Red · Slow flash

WiFi connection has been lost. The red LED flashes slowly (500 ms on, 500 ms off). The device will automatically reconnect when the network is available.

Weather Error

Cyan (G+B) · Static

Connected to WiFi but unable to fetch weather data. The green and blue LEDs are on steadily, producing a solid cyan light. The device will retry automatically.

Firmware Update

Magenta (R+B) · Fast flash

A firmware update (OTA) is being downloaded and installed. The red and blue LEDs flash together rapidly (125 ms on, 125 ms off), producing a magenta blink. Do not unplug the device during this process.

Error

Red · Fast flash

A critical error has occurred. The red LED flashes rapidly at about 4 Hz (125 ms on, 125 ms off). Press and hold the reset button to factory-reset the device and begin setup again.

Additional Indicator States

These states may appear briefly during specific operations:

Bluetooth Connected

Blue · Static

A phone or computer is connected via Bluetooth for setup.

Update Complete

Green · Fast flash

Firmware update succeeded. The device will reboot shortly.

Factory Reset

Red · Breathe

The device is being reset to factory defaults. All settings are erased and the device will reboot into provisioning mode.
